Over the past 8 years, WCIG? has taken 35+ trips and seen over 40+ cities across the United States and throughout the world. Why Can’t I Go? (WCIG?) is continuing to fulfill its mission by providing students the opportunity to learn through diverse traveling experiences.
This year, WCIG? plans to travel to New Orleans, Louisiana and Dallas, Texas. We will cap off the year with a trip to Rio De Janeiro.
WCIG? was originally designed to afford special education and at-risk students the opportunity to travel to places they could only dream about. The program has created invaluable partnerships with several professional athletes, entertainers and business owners (Kevin Garnett, Daunte Culpepper, Bobby Jackson, Devean George, Jacque Jones, Tori Hunter, Chauncey Billups, Terry Lewis, and Matt Steensland). These contributors to our program are committed to diverse learning experiences through travel. WCIG? trips have landed in Paris, France; the Great Wall of China—Shanghai, China; Vatican City; the Canals of Venice, Italy; the ruins of Athens, Greece; Disneyland; Tokyo, Japan; and San Juan, Costa Rica.
WCIG? targets students that are typically underrepresented in school sponsored travel experiences. This program will provide that new methodology to learn through travel.
Students who meet the following criteria are eligible for WCIG trips: 1) 90% attendance, 2) 2.0 GPA, 3) pass at least one section of the MCAs, and 4) perform a minimum of 20 hours of community service determined by site staff.
